Now THAT was something that I really enjoyed. I think the other problem is I started a series right after reading The Never King that blew me away and put this book to shame. One of them was interesting to me but not enough to redeem even part of the story. We shall see.Īnother issue, I think, was the fact that none of the characters were really that likable in my opinion. And I really don’t think I’ll lose any sleep if I never find out. I MIGHT pick up book two at some point and read it just to see if the plot goes anywhere and to find out what’s going on with this curse and all but… I’m not dying to find out. But then I sat on this one for a few days and decided I didn’t really care either way. Was I dying to go get the second book to find out what was going on? Well, at first, yea. In fact, the plot didn’t really start until the end of the book when it left us on a cliffhanger. ![]() I wasn’t bothered by it but I think the plot wasn’t enough to warrant literally anything else this book had to offer. I don’t know if it was this book specifically or the gang-banging that was going on. But I was willing to give it a go as it was a Peter Pan retelling and it seemed like it was going to be really dark. Let me just say, I’ve never read a book like this before. Ok so… one of the book clubs I’m a part of read this book and when I saw what it was about, I immediately jumped on it. ![]() ![]() ![]() Tentatively, the two join forces, heading towards their future. And this sensationalism is compounded by her appalling writing. One of her books begins with the apparent assumption that all women are raped and abused from childhood onwards. Such criticisms are fair in that Mackinnon does not hesitate to present her thought in sensational terms. A leading American judge, Richard A Posner, has said she "depicts the United States as a vast conspiracy of men to rape and terrorise women". Indeed, so hard-line are her views that she has been accused by some more moderate feminists of operating a "sexual double standard" in which sex is good for the man but automatically degrades the woman. One of her books is entitled Towards a Feminist Theory of the State, indicating that she sees feminism as a doctrine of transformation rather then reform. She is emphatically not a liberal feminist. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() We found her mother's body instead, being eaten by Celtic sea demons who had decided to pop up in the middle of Atlanta and resurrect a wannabe god.
